Oh yeah, and in case you haven't heard,

         we got married.

August 29, 2009 at the Museum of Latin American Art

I'm holding up my palm because I got henna done the day before the wedding. Very Indian of me.

a return?

I've been toying with the idea of the return of the blogging Trisha Ria...

Sometimes I find myself reading my facebook news feed in grave boredom, wondering why the heck I waste my time. I just need something to do, I suppose. To be more specific, something to take my mind off my obligations. Something non-work related, non-house chore related, non-errand related, and non-wedding related. Yet, if I'm searching for a way to escape reality, I probably shouldn't be looking to my facebook friends and their pictures of their latest meals or latest [insert ridiculous quiz name here] results. I've filtered out all of the boring and/or offensive micro-bloggers, but that doesn't guarantee a fulfilling social networking experience.

Is blogging better? For me, possibly. I'm curious as to how I would write about my experiences and my observations of the world around me today, and how that would compare to my writing from five years ago. I've definitely become more political. Some social issues have become near and dear to my heart. But I don't intend to use blogging as that kind of outlet.

I'm not sure what I intend to do with a blog these days. I visit design and craft blogs on occasion, but I'm have no interest in authoring one. Should I spew my guts out and keep all blogs private? Make public, frequent "tweets" and post corresponding pictures? Both? Not a picture blog -- that's what flickr is for, I think.

I guess I'll either do it, or I won't. And we'll find out. :)

Other things to keep me occupied:

- Become more involved in Philippine typhoon relief efforts, and in welfare and sustainability projects
- Take on more responsibility in my goddaughter's life
- Take up crocheting and painting, again
- Design and build a bunch of iPhone apps, or at least one really good one
- Revamp the resume (Aghh, not fun)
- Finally finish my handmade Thank You cards, and putting away the rest of the wedding "things" scattered around the house (Also not fun)

Your end-of-the-blog award
The pineapple plant we're growing on our backyard porch:

You only get the picture, not the plant. I don't want to see you hopping my fence, claiming that I told you that the plant is yours.

space: the final frontier

how appropriate, that during what may be the height of my star trek obsession, the star trek movie was released.

i am more of a tng fan than i am of the original series, but i have found that i really like some of the spock-centric episodes.

i thought the movie was fantastic.

almost equally appropriate is this post that NPR put up about http://www.vincentfournier.co.uk/. check out 'space project', which features images from space simulations around the globe. it's beautiful.

gifts

wonderful, wonderful news. for me, at least. i found out today that my cousin ivy, who has been abroad in the Philippines doing volunteer work and just getting to know our parents' homeland, volunteers at a center for children with cerebral palsy. she said that they were very understaffed, and that they could use all the funding they can get. and i thought: what a perfect cause to make donations! as much as i salute groups like habitat for humanity and doctors without borders, i'd feel 10 times greater giving to an organization through which money doesn't have to deal with all the bureaucratic hoops before it finally gets to the people who need it most. even with the plunge of the U.S. dollar, our money would go a long way. i also thought it'd be a nice touch to show pictures and video (courtesy of ivy) of the center and the children who will benefit.

in other news, we finally got the settlement check for our burglary in january. and it turned out to be a little over half of the amount we expected. we'd forgotten about a little thing called depreciation. why does that make it okay to force someone to go beyond their means to recover their losses? it's not like i traded those things in for cash! ah well. we're just forced to only get the most essential of the items. (unfortunately, most of the stuff is pretty "essential", since karl will need a lot of A/V equipment to do some video projects he's got lined up in the next few months.)

the wedding blog #1

i am going to turn my xanga that no one reads anymore into a wedding blog. why? i'm not sure. i suppose i need some sort of "creative" avenue to do my planning.

i've been working on the wedding planning in spurts. we put the deposit down for MOLAA months ago, and then put everything to the side. then with the coming of the new year, it seemed like the wedding was the only thing anyone wanted to talk about with me, so i became obsessed with finding invitations and making sure my bridesmaids picked out their dresses, and i had the flower girls' and junior bridesmaids dresses purchased. i got really overwhelmed by that, and took another break. now here i am, writing a blog.

yesterday we decided to add a new color to the mix. originally we chose brown and cream, or to be more precise, chocolate & vanilla. while i thought it'd be really cool to add pink and be able to say our colors are NEOPOLITAN (wow, *cool*), i conceded when karl suggested green instead. i've been obsessed with eco-friendliness for a long time, and the wedding paper divas invitation we chose last week has those very colors.

yesterday, the following picture inspired me to finalize my flower selection:
hydrangea, spider mums, yarrow, and cymbidium orchids wedding bouquet
i love spider mums, orchids, and hydrangea. i also love calla lilies, so we'll be throwing those in, too. at first i was all about the look of bouquets consisting of only white calla lilies, but decided instead that the mix would be more our style (and much more cost effective). we still want chocolate and vanilla to be the predominant colors, so we'll probably only have the orchids and filler(green poms or queen annes) be green.

more green:

in case anyone else reading this is also interested in having their wedding do some good, check out I Do Foundation. you can link your Target or Wedding Channel gift registry through them, so that any time anyone makes a purchase, a percentage of the proceeds will go to one or more of your favorite charities! no cost. the only difficult part is making sure your friends and fam go through the I Do Foundation link to get to your registry; otherwise your charity can't benefit. we will also be going through the I Do Foundation to donate to charity in lieu of wedding favors. well, we'll still have small take-home gifts (which will double as the place card), but we'll be spending more to donate to charity. also, we've signed up on Go Gift as a more consolidated way to allow our guests to give monetary gifts.

i suppose i should stop there. i want a few things to remain surprises. (not like anyone will really read this, but still...)

well, one more thing. in case you never believed me when i said i was an obsessive person, check this spreadsheet out:
wedding spreadsheet

i have been working on it for the past week. if you look along the bottom, i've got different sheets for different items. the individual sheets are particularly detailed. as you might have noticed, the flowers sheet specifies how many stems of each flower will be in each bouquet and the approximate price per stem, and uses those to calculate the costs. the guest list tallies how many people are definitely, possibly, and not likely to show.

man, i'm anal. maybe i should have been a wedding planner or event coordinator.
